Our organization has been pushing Paulo Caroli's https://martinfowler.com/articles/team-okr.html and I would dearly love to know how to translate better from more empirical measurements of business health like SLIs to the terms that it appears they are looking for.

The 2 concepts are vaguely related. If there's a OKR for improving the health of the tech or its performance, the targets (key results) can be translated to SLOs which in turn need SLIs.

For example, if the OKR is aiming to improve customer retention on an online sales site, and research shows that the site's latency is a factor that needs to be improved, latency can be the SLI and some number like 99.7% becomes the SLO. Pls be mindful that SLO is not free and the discussions about budgeting should very much be part of the equation. Read more here: https://blog.alexewerlof.com/p/10x9
